The story takes place a long time ago when there was a man named Wu who had two obedient sons. They all lived in a small village and made their living by farming.
One day, while the two sons were working in the fields, they suddenly saw a person approaching from a distance. This person looked exactly like their father but had a menacing demeanor, used foul language, and threatened to harm them. Terrified, they rushed back home to tell their mother. The mother inquired with their father, who was quite alarmed, and said that it must be an imposter or a ghost pretending to be him. He instructed his sons to go and kill it, so they grabbed an axe and went in search of the intruder. However, when they arrived at the spot, the apparition had vanished.
Fearing for their sons' safety, the father went to check the fields himself. The sons, believing their father had been replaced by the ghost, killed and buried him. The ghost then took on the father's appearance, returned home, and informed the mother and sons that the two boys had killed the monster. When the sons came back in the evening, the whole family was relieved and joyful.
Many years passed without any unusual occurrences. Eventually, a monk passed by their home and told the sons, "Your father harbors a great deal of malevolent energy." The sons relayed this message to their father (the ghost), who grew furious. They asked the monk to leave, but the monk started chanting loudly in the house. The father (the ghost) immediately transformed into a large raccoon, hiding under the bed. The monk captured and killed the raccoon. He then revealed to the sons that the man they had killed was their real father. They exhumed the body and gave him a proper burial, holding a funeral service. One son, consumed by remorse, took his own life, and the other, filled with anger, also met his demise.
